On the eve of the admissions cycle for nyc kindergartens, Alex and Greg Wheeler have high hopes to get four-year-old Jake. Jake's preschool's manager encourages them to accentuate the gender behavior that is expansive of Jake to help him stick outside. A rift grows between them, one another, and one that forces them to face their concerns about what's best for both Jake, as Greg and Alex browse their roles as parents.
