An expansive Russian drama centers around the life of religious icon painter Andrei Rublev. Drifting from place to put at a tumultuous age, the peace-seeking monk eventually gains a reputation for his art. But he takes some some time away from his job and also takes a vow of silence after Rublev witnesses unintentionally and a battle will become involved. Since he begins to ease his troubled soul, he takes steps towards learning to be a painter.
