After World War II, Antonia and her daughter return to their hometown, where a small farm has been bestowed by the late mother of Antonia up on her. There, Antonia melts and joins a tightly knit but odd community. Those around her comprise prospective suitor Bas, friend Crooked Finger and for Antonia, greatgranddaughter and a granddaughter who help make a family of women.
