On the day Jean Gabin dies, Simon Verini's wife is murdered by a kidnapper who also takes a fortune in jewels stolen from Cartiers. (Simon was fencing the jewels for the young gang that robbed Cartiers; he suspects them of murder.) He is framed for the theft and sentenced to ten years in prison while writing to his 11-year-old daughter, Marie-Sophie. After being released, he reconnects with Marie-Sophie and the young thieves, plots revenge, and is promptly arrested again. She doesn't know what to make of her father, flees to her Swiss fiancé, and is flummoxed when one of the young criminals falls for her. Is resolution feasible when crime affects families and romantic relationships?
