City of Death and Life Happens in 1937, during the height of This Second Sino-Japanese War. Even the Imperial Japanese Army has only caught the then-capital of the Republic of China, Nanjing. What followed was understood as the Nanking Massacre, along with the Rape of Nanking, a period of weeks wherein tens and thousands of soldiers and civilians were murdered.
