In the year 180, the death of emperor Marcus Aurelius throws the Roman Empire . Maximus is one of the Roman army's most capable and trusted generals and a key advisor to the emperor. As Marcus' devious son Commodus ascends to the throne, Maximus is set to be executed. He escapes, but is captured by slave dealers. Renamed Spaniard and forced to become a gladiator, Maximus must battle to the death with other men for the amusement of paying audiences.

A lot of this is wrong. Marcus did want his son Commadus to rule. He left it in his will. He was the one who would fight gladiators but he made sure their swords were dull. He cheated. You can hear the true stories on YouTube. FYI they were called Caesar because of Julius Caesar.

Julius Caesar nephew was the first Caesar ever. He changed his last name to Caesar and it went from there. I love history.

my favorite scene is when the gladiator is in the arena and he takes off his helmet and the emperor sees him and who it is for the first time I swear to God he s*** his pants that's my favorite scene

when it comes to history doesn't matter, because most of the time creators and directors have to change it alil bit for entertainment purposes. regardless Alexander, gladiator, troy, 300, vikings, Apocalypto, any and all are great when made right/good not one better thn the other
