A saga of course relationships and shifting times in a Edwardian England on the edge of modernity, the picture focuses on liberal Margaret Schlegel, who, along with her sister Helen, becomes concerned about two couples: wealthy, conservative industrialist Henry Wilcox and his wife Ruth, and the downwardly mobile workingclass Leonard Bast and his mistress Jackie.

Fantastic! An excellent adaptation of the Forester novel, which I also enjoyed. Emma Thompson truly deserved her Oscar. ****.
