4.1
Pretty Melinda Howard has traveled internationally with a musical company. She chooses to return home to surprise her mother, whom she believes is a successful Broadway actress with a Manhattan mansion. She had no idea that her mother is a burned-out cabaret performer with a penchant for liquor. When she arrives at the mansion, she is welcomed by two servants who are friends of her mother's. Adolph Hubbell, a good-hearted Broadway producer who is likewise lured into the farce, owns the house. Hubbell falls for Melinda and promises to cast her in his next show. Melinda also finds love with a handsome hoofer who appears on the show. Everything is going well for Melinda, except she wants to visit her mother, who continues putting off their reunion.
