you know what as soon as it happened as soon as he abuse you verbally physically however that's the time to speak about it you don't wait years and pop up and show your feelings about it cuz if it hurt you as much as you said it did you would have spoke up that moment in time

instead of holding out to see what benefits you would get from the person smoldering it down because you were going to profit from it that's BS that bothered you say something don't benefit from something and then whine about it years later
