In 19th century England, a brain surgeon enrolls a student from spirits him away to a repurposed abbey much in the countryside, and being hanged on a certainty for murder. Additionally, he connives his student into assisting him mapping the roles of the many regions of the body, using living subjects who are under a dreadful animation-suspending drug called"black sleeping". Subsequently, the student, in addition to the daughter of a few of those subjects, realize that almost all of these subjects have survived but are being kept at a dungeon-like cellar, in many stages of derangement...
