Boris and veronika come together shortly before World War II. Walking over the river, they watch before Boris leaves to fight, cranes fly overhead, and then promise to rendezvous. While Veronika waits patiently, sending letters liberally boris misses the meeting and is off to the front lines. Once her property is murdered, Veronika moves in using Boris' family, into the company of a cousin using his intentions.
