Balthazar Blake is actually really a master sorcerer in modern day Manhattan wanting to shield the city Maxim Horvath, out of his archnemesis. Balthazar can't do it alone, and he recruits Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy who demonstrates potential that is hidden, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magical, and these unlikely partners work to block the forces of darkness.
