Subsequent to the 1860s Wild West, a group - including bookseller Julian, prostitute Belle, and ex-doctor Phil Taylor - pick they cannot live within their present situation from the west. They hire a grizzled lane master by James Harlow's name to take them from the East onto a journey back to their home towns.
