Rebbe Mendel is one dad who educates the boys of his small town the Talmud, a text of Judaism. Behind closed doors, he instructs Yentl his daughter that girls are forbidden to examine scripture. When Yentl's father dies, she suddenly finds love, also has a urge to know about her own faith -- she disguises herself as a man, enrolls at a school.
