A young Brooklyn writer, jonathan Ames, is feeling lost. He's just gone through a debilitating break-up, thanks in part to his drinking, can not write his book, and carouses much along with his magazine editor. Instead of face facts, Jonathan turns as an alternative into his fantasies -- moonlighting as a private detective -- as he wants to be considered a hero and a person of action.
