Noriko is perfectly content living at home with her widowed father, Shukichi, and has no plans to marry -- that is, until her aunt Masa convinces Shukichi that unless he marries his 27-year-old daughter soon, she'll likely remain alone for the remainder of her entire life. When Noriko resists Masa's match making, Shukichi is made to deceive his daughter and forfeit his or her own happiness to do what he thinks is right.
