Dexter's Laboratory - 1996
1996-04-28
4.1
For Cartoon Network, Genndy Tartakovsky produced the animated series Dexter's Laboratory, a comedy science fiction children's television show. The story revolves around Dexter, a young prodigy who lives in a hidden laboratory where he keeps all of his creations. Dee Dee, his sister and archrival, as well as Mandark, his next-door neighbor, are frequent sources of conflict for him. Dexter's pet monkey, Dial M for Monkey, and a trio of superheroes who share an apartment make up the other portions in the first two seasons of the series. While attending the California Institute of the Arts, Tartakoffsky produced a number of student films that he later turned into animated shorts for Hanna-animated Barbera's shorts showcase World Premiere Toons. To get the network to order a 13-episode first season, which premiered on April 28, 1996, four shorts were produced and broadcast on Cartoon Network in 1995 and 1996. Tartakovsky left the series in 1999 after completing 52 episodes and a television movie, and went on to work on Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars. A new production crew at Cartoon Network Studios restarted the series in 2001, and 26 more episodes were produced before the series ended on November 20, 2003.
