Martin Freeman is love-lorn teacher Mr Maddens, an former am-dram star whose girlfriend (Ashley Jensen) dropped him over Christmas five years ago and upped sticks, strangely, to La-La Land. Yuletide cheer isn't his forte, but he has forced to drum up some when the headmistress of Pam Ferris earmarks him to guide the Nativity play with.
