For lands from his platoon, Personal David Manning reluctantly leaves behind searches and a mortally injured fellow soldier in WWII Western Germany , simply to learn by commanding officer Captain Pritchett which they will have been killed in action. Despite asking a discharge on the grounds of handicap, Manning is promoted to sergeant and assigned to cause a new platoon of younger inductees.
